The Western Union has a telegram of an urgent nature addressed to Mrs. Walter Irwin, Walla Walla. She cannot be located.
Saturday, Sept. 10, 1921; Walla Walla Union, Death notices section, page 2:
The remains of John Conrad Weitz arrived yesterday morning and are at the MacMartin and Chamberlain Chapel. The Funeral will be held Monday Afternoon at 2 from the Methodist Church, Rev. T.W. Lane Officiating. The American Legion will have charge of the services. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.
Monday, Sept. 12, 1921; Walla Walla Union, Funeral Notice:
John Conrad Weitz: The Funeral of John Conrad Weitz will be held this afternoon at 2pm from the Methodist Church. Rev. T.W. Lane Officiating. American Legion Having charge. Burial will be in the Mountain View cemetery.
Note:
John was the older brother of Mathilda Weitz-Sellars. He died at the age of 31 on October 3, 1918 in France while serving with the American Expeditionary Force of World War One. He was a Marine Corporal in 6th Regiment which was part of the 4th Marine Brigade attached to the Army 2nd Division. The Mrs. Walter Irwin mentioned above is his older sister Katherine. Katherine and her husband Walter Scott Irwin are buried on either side of John (grave 2, lot 4, block 60, Mountain View Cemetery).
