The McGillard Family Line In 1841, JEMIMA JANE5 MCGILLIARD (Joseph Preston4) married William1 SELLERS. Her earliest traceable ancestor (in the McGillard family line) was a Robert1 McGillard who must have been born in the late 1600's or early 1700's. Other than this, all we know of Robert1 is that he had a son named John2 who died in 1767. Second Generation: JOHN2 MCGILLIARD (ROBERT1) died 1767. He married HANNAH REEVES 1756. She died 1769. Children of JOHN2 MCGILLIARD and HANNAH REEVES are: JAMES3 MCGILLIARD, married CATHERINE LANE, Hamilton County Ohio. JOHN3 MCGILLIARD, born about 1759, Info. from Kip McGilliard 2104 Dekalb Pl, Charleston IL 61920; d. 1836. Third Generation: JOHN3 MCGILLIARD, JR. (JOHN2) was born about 1759 in Info. from Kip McGilliard 2104 Dekalb Pl, Charleston IL 61920, and died 1836. He married SUSANNAH PRESTON. Children of JOHN MCGILLIARD and SUSANNAH PRESTON are: SMITH4 MCGILLIARD. JAMIMA4 MCGILLIARD. JOHN4 MCGILLIARD III, born 1788 in Pennsylvania (one source on internet says b. 8-11-1802) died 1878, Hamilton County Ohio - one of 1st residents of Springdale, Ohio. Served as Justice of Peace and Postmaster. JOSEPH4 PRESTON MCGILLIARD, born February 8, 1801, Ohio -- he was a mechanic and cabinet maker Kip has him born on 8 Feb 1804; d. October 14, 1875, buried at Finley Chapel, Montgomery County IN-DAR Cem. files. ABIGAIL4 MCGILLIARD, born 1803; died February 21, 1868. Fourth Generation JOSEPH PRESTON4 MCGILLIARD (JOHN3) was born February 08, 1801 in Ohio -- he was a mechanic and cabinet maker. Kip has him born on 8 Feb 1804, and died October 14, 1875. He is buried in Finley Chapel, Montgomery Co IN-DAR Cem. files. He married JEMIMA MCLAUGHLIN September 27, 1821 in Ohio. She was born August 13, 1802 in Pennsylvania. One source on internet says she was born 8-11-1802 (family Bible), and died January 13, 1857 in Montgomery County, Indiana. Children of JOSEPH PRESTON4 MCGILLIARD (JOHN3) and JEMIMA MCLAUGHLIN are: JEMIMA JANE5 MCGILLIARD, born May 9, 1824, probably in Ohio -- "Jane" married William SELLERS on May 27, 1841 in Montgomery County, Indiana (Book 2 page 166). Note, contrary to a later 1850 and 1860 census records which indicate William was born about 1817 in Ohio, the marriage record apparently indicates he was born about 1824 in Kentucky. She died sometime between 1851, when her youngest son Isaac was born, and before the 1860 census. JOHN MCGILLIARD5, born January 19, 1826, probably in Ohio; died February 9, 1826 (from family Bible). STEPHEN5 REEVES MCGILLIARD, born January 20, 1827, Wayne County, Indiana; died March 02, 1895, 511 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana. FRANCIS5 MCGILLIARD, born December 12, 1828, Montgomery County, Indiana; died April 24, 1906, Montgomery County, Indiana Death Rec. Bk. 4 pg. 49. JAMES5 A. MCGILLIARD, born August 07, 1831; probably in Montgomery Co. Indiana since father got Original Land Grant in 1830; died July 7, 1906. SUZANNA5 MCGILLIARD, born July 31, 1833, Montgomery County, Indiana. ABIGAIL5 MCGILLIARD, born May 2, 1836 in Montgomery County, Indiana; died 1892 at Garden City KS. MARY5 E. "LIDA" MCGILLIARD, born September 10, 1838, Indiana. GEORGE5 W. MCGILLIARD born August 26, 1840 in Montgomery County, Indiana; died December 21, 1863. WILLIAM5 JOSEPH PRESTON MCGILLIARD born September 15, 1842, Montgomery Co. Indiana; married AMANDA WILSON, December 26, 1859. SENIA5 MCGILLIARD born 1844 in Montgomery County, Indiana; died 1904, buried with husband. SARAH5 E. MCGILLIARD born 1846 in Montgomery County, Indiana; lives with Nichols in 1860 census; married ABRAHAM J. MILLER on May 29, 1862, Montgomery Co., IN Bk 5 p 5881. Children of JEMIMA JANE5 MCGILLIARD and WILLIAM SELLERS are: JAMES SELLERS, b. about 1843. JOHN D. SELLERS, b. about. 1845. WILLIAM SELLERS, b. about. 1848. ISAAC SELLERS, b. about. 1851. Notes for JOSEPH PRESTON4 MCGILLIARD (JOHN3): Original Land Grant (Union Township) Sec 22 - Township 18 Rg 4 Bk 11 pg. 307 on April 2, 1830 -- this means they were married in Ohio and the following children should have been born in Ohio Jane5 John5 Stephen5 Francis5 1830 Ohio census shows two McGillards: John McGaillard Hamilton County, Ohio; page 262 Springfield McGillaird, John Hamilton P 257. Early marriages off Hamilton County, Ohio: McGilliard James & Catherine Lane 12-31-1809 John & ELiz. Campbell 1806 Joseph4 was a cabinet maker. He learned the trade from his father who also was a cabinet maker. Joseph and Jemima had 12 children. Howard King, in his notes, states that other than names/dates, no records could be found of any of the children except Francis and James. J&J were natives of Ohio and moved to Montgomery County, Indiana after they were married; date unknown. 1830 Montgomery County, Indiana census page 28 shows: McGilliard, J.P. household with: 2 males under age 5 ; 1 male age 20-30, 1 female age 5-10; 1 female age 20-30 1840 Montgomery County, Indiana census for Union Township, page 228 shows: Joseph P. McGilliard had a business on Elm St., Whitesville, IN next to Jas. Goble and near F.M.
